The historic Elmendorph Inn was built in the 1760s and became a stop on the stagecoach route between New York City to Albany. The Inn was in disrepair and slated for demolition when the Friends of Elmendorph, Inc. purchased it in 1977.

The Inn is now available for meetings, exhibits, celebrations, tours and local history programs.
Thanks to community support, State and Federal grants and fund raising activities the building is structurally sound, centrally heated, electrified and handicap accessible. The exterior of the Inn and the Federal interiors have been restored to their appearance in the 1820’s.
The second floor of the Inn houses the Rosemary Coons Archive Center for the Egbert Benson Historical Society of Red Hook as well as the Village of Red Hook Historian’s Office.
